On May 16 2002, firefighters were called to a blaze inside the church of Our Lady Immaculate, Ashton-in-Makerfield, near Liverpool.
Damage was confined to the altar area of the building, but smoke took its toll and the Bishop organ in a gallery on the south wall suffered its effects.
Wood Pipe Organs was asked to restore the instrument, which has mechanical action to the manuals and pneumatic pedal action. The church is now fully in use.
